Hey there guys! In this tutorial we will be going over the steps to create a mobile game character. A lot of mistakes are made when modeling 3D characters for games. We will be going over making it the correct way! We will be modeling out everything through Blender and I will be showing you guys all the tips and tricks to make your workflow efficient.

This tutorial will be covering how to avoid mistakes in making 3d character models for mobile games. What we will be learning is how to spot out any deformities within our character models. After finding out how to discover what an incorrect model looks like, we will start creating a correct 3d character model from scratch, to show you guys how to optimize a character for a mobile game.

Project Outline

Session 1: Going over basic character mistakes

  • Opening up a model and finding the errors within it
  • Showing everything wrong with the character model
  • Going over tips and tricks to fix them

Session 2: Recreating our base mesh

  • Going through our mesh and fixing everything
  • Creating clean topology and a character to be able to animate

Session 3: Beginning character sculpting

  • Using our base mesh to sculpt on
  • Going over basic sculpting tips for mobile characters
  • Sculpting within Blender

Session 4: Sculpting details

  • Going and refining our mesh
  • Using blender sculpt to put in as much detail as we can

Session 5: Sculpting clothes & retopology

  • Using blender to sculpt the characters clothes
  • Going within 3D coat and starting retopology
  • Using our tactics to create a clean edge flow

Session 6: Finishing retopology

  • Using 3d coat to retopologize our character
  • Cleaning up all the edge flow in the mesh

Session 7: Texturing

  • Baking our normal maps in substance painter
  • Base texturing in substance painter
  • Using PBR textures to detail the mesh
